      "In 1854, the Council House was completed and school was held in that building at one time or another. As the town grew larger, a rock school house was built in each Ward. They were identical--one in the South Ward, a block west of the Assembly Hall and one in the North Ward on part of the Court House block. In the South Ward, J.P. Madsen and N.W. Anderson taught, and Mrs. Dalton, Ann Maylett and Wallace Billings taught in the North ward."
