      George Pierce Gappmayer, of American Fork, 82, passed away July 26, 2006, in Provo. George was born May 3, 1924, in Orem, the son of Lewis Bartl and Isabel Billings Gappmayer.

      George married Renee Bullock, August 27, 1950, in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and together, had three children. He later married Erlin Grantham on October 22, 1983. Erlin passed away in January of 2006.

      George served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, and continued his service in the Air Force. He related many stories to his family about his experiences in India and Okinawa.

      George had a love of family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and reading a good book. He was a great gardener and shared the fruits of his labors with friends, neighbors, and family.

      George was an active member the LDS Church and served in the Handcart Mission Center, the Washington D.C. South Mission, and a special mission at the Utah State Developmental Center. He lived his faith and was a great example to everyone, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

      He is survived by his three children: Susan (Kim) Banks, Mapleton; Craig (Kathy) Gappmayer, Boise; Marc (Shelly) Gappmayer, Springville; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; devoted sister, Dora Fanelli, Orem; step-children: James (Rosemary) Grantham, Noxon, Montana; Donald (Janelle) Grantham, Nibley, UT; Kay-Lynn Grantham, Salt Lake; and Sharon (Lane) Marshall, Elko.

      Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at 11 a.m., in the American Fork Fifteenth Ward Chapel, 455 East 300 North, American Fork. Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove; and, at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
